School History
Hilltop Middle School is a two-year middle school serving grades 7 – 8. Hilltop was opened in 1959 and became a middle school in September 1993. The school now serves over 1,200 students in a variety of programs including 7th grade interdisciplinary teaming, accelerated classes for academically talented youngsters, a Foreign Language and Global Studies (FLAGS) Program, health for adolescence, a band program including beginning and marching band, and technology labs. An ELD program supports students learning English.
There is a strong sense of community and pride at the school. The school boasts a very large volunteer program which includes parents and community members. There is an active Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO), FLAGS Parent Advisory, English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC), and Band Boosters Parent Group. Hilltop Middle is a 2001 Distinguished School.
Students in the Sweetwater Union High School District are expected to master state and district standards which will prepare them to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
